The Paul Ippolito Outlook

Welcome to this edition of The Paul Ippolito Outlook.

A big shout out and thank you for all the positive feedback I got last week. It is appreciated. If you missed it, here it is.

The Paul Ippolito Outlook is targeted at professionals, leaders, managers and organisations.

It is a snapshot of what I have been thinking about, listening to, reading, watching, researching as well as anything interesting I have come across.

A Couple Of Interesting Quotes

“The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining”.

- US President J.F Kennedy

Keep working on bettering yourself every single day is my key takeaway here.

"Our minds are hurt more often by overeating than by hunger".

- Petrarch

Watch what you consume information wise.

Currently Reading

I am reading Michael Connelly's latest book Resurrection Walk at the moment.

It is the 7th book in the defence attorney Micky Haller - Lincoln Lawyer series (I like a good lawyer read). I also read the Harry Bosch and Renee Ballard series ones as well.

Lots of twists and turns as you would expect. Interestingly this has all 3 of Haller, Bosch and ballard featuring in it.

If you like legal fiction, take a look.

Watching On YouTube

I came across Walter Green, who is the founder of what is called the "Say It Now" movement.

He speaks about being grateful to the people that matter around you, and telling them so, whilst you are still alive.

I found a ten minute TedX talk on his website that he gave called - "Why We Should Eulogise The Living" and was nodding my head profusely all the way through it.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did - please let me know what you think here.

Trends I Am Watching Closely

I have been looking at the issue of where people get their news from lately.

The topics of where we source our news and information from as well as the issues of disinformation, misinformation along with deepfakes and AI impersonation, are all hot topics of the moment, and especially important in an election year, throughout so many places around the world.

From where I am sitting, the traditional sources of print and TV media are diminishing at scale, and the attention economy is now squarely focussed on social media like TikTok and LinkedIn.

I am however starting to sense some pretty serious social media fatigue starting to set in, and a sense that people are switching off news altogether.

I would really like to hear your views on where you get your news from?

An Interesting Article I Stumbled Across

Following on from the above, I came across an excellent blogpost here by Gurwinder Bhogal from his Sub-Stack newsletter called "The Prism", written back in 2022 which really hits the mark in relation to what he calls an "intellectual obesity crisis".

In it he cautions us about consuming too much information, as he equates junk data with junk food, and the unhealthiness of over consuming such. It is well worth a read, especially in this age of endless social media creation and consumption.
