A Smart Bubble - Why You Should Have One.

A key concept that I often discuss in my talks to professionals, is the necessity to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to practice.

Part of this involves me saying, how increasingly essentially it is to create what I term a 'smart bubble'.

This aspect of practice invites us to broaden our horizon outside our daily sphere, to explore various areas of whatever it is we do beyond our primary specialty.

It is about cultivating an appreciation for the interconnectedness of various disciplines outside of our own.

It is also about how a comprehensive understanding of such in a holistic manner can lend itself to more well-rounded and innovative approach to our work with clients and in the way we operate.

You cannot, however, be expected to do this alone – nor should you, in my opinion.

The world around us, from politics to technology, economics to sociology, shapes the day to day work we do and its application in a myriad of ways.

Seeing and interpreting these influences is crucial to staying relevant and ahead of the game.

That is why I advocate creating what is called a “smart bubble” of like and equally, non-likeminded people who “you” like and "you" think are “smart” and “get it”.

Forming simple social networking groups of a few people who are other professionals, who may be good at their niche in business or technology or politics or economics or law or whatever, will broaden help your mindset and allow for constant learning and fresh ideas.

It will also help you get out of home or the office and “onto the ground level of life” more.

Talking and engaging regularly with those in your smart bubble will help you challenge your own status quo, help you think outside the box, allow your and their wisdom to be shared and equip you all with a better understanding of how the work you do intersects with a diverse array of relevant societal fields.

Embracing this can only result in a more dynamic, future-ready professional practice, fostering continual innovation and competitiveness – which ultimately helps you, your clients and society become better.

Have a good think of who should be in your smart bubble, then start reaching out to them!
